Early Life & Business Career
Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in New York City, into a well-established real estate family. He was the fourth child of Fred Trump, a successful property developer, and Mary MacLeod Trump. Trump completed his schooling at the New York Military Academy and later studied at Fordham University before graduating with a degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
After completing his education, Trump joined his father’s real estate business, which managed thousands of residential housing units in New York. In 1974, he took control of the family enterprise and later renamed it the Trump Organization. During the late 1970s and 1980s, Trump expanded the business aggressively, shifting its focus to large-scale luxury projects in Manhattan and Atlantic City.
Trump became nationally known after developing iconic properties such as Trump Tower, Grand Hyatt Hotel, and several high-end residential complexes. He also entered the casino industry, owning major properties like Trump Taj Mahal and Trump Plaza. Alongside real estate, he invested in airlines, sports teams, beauty pageants, and luxury branding, turning his surname into a global business brand.
Despite facing major financial setbacks and multiple bankruptcies in the early 1990s and 2000s, Trump rebuilt his fortune through licensing deals and media success. His biggest financial revival came from the reality TV show The Apprentice, which significantly boosted his public image and income. Over time, Trump became one of the most recognizable business personalities in the world, long before entering politics.
The 2016 Election

In the 2016 U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump faced Hillary Clinton, a former secretary of state and former first lady. Many observers believed Clinton would win, as Trump had no prior experience in public office and ran an unconventional campaign.
Although Hillary Clinton received around 2.9 million more votes nationwide, the U.S. election system does not depend solely on the popular vote. Instead, the president is chosen through the Electoral College, where each state is assigned a set number of electoral votes based on its population.
Trump secured victories in several key states with large numbers of electoral votes, allowing him to win the Electoral College and become president. As a result, he became the fifth U.S. president in history to win the presidency despite losing the national popular vote.
Another Chance at the Presidency
Donald Trump Biogarphy announced his return to presidential politics in November 2022, launching a campaign focused on reviving the policies of his first term. In July 2024, he selected Ohio senator JD Vance as his vice-presidential running mate.
The race took a dramatic turn when President Joe Biden withdrew from the election just weeks before voting day, leading Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic nominee. Despite the sudden change, voter dissatisfaction with the previous administration remained strong.
In the 2024 election, Trump defeated Harris, winning both the popular vote and the Electoral College. With this victory, he became the first U.S. president since Grover Cleveland to serve two nonconsecutive terms. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.
